My Season With the Washington Kastles – Part 3: Bobby Reynolds

‘The Closer’, that was Bobby Reynolds’ nickname in the 2011 season as it somehow seemed that every single match played rested on Bobby’s shoulders.  Day after day the Kastles closer, and 2010 Rookie of The Year, kept fans on the edge of their seats as each point was heavily contested.  Bobby fought his way through over a dozen tiebreakers and supertiebreakers (in both MS and MD) going a stellar 9-5 throughout the season, including a perfect 5-0 at home.  Without Reynolds to anchor the team the perfect season might have been in jeopardy as he won 63 of the 111 games played.  Partnering with Leander Paes for Men’s Doubles, Reynolds and Paes had a league leading .587 winning percentage (64 of 109 games).  With the third pick in the player draft the Kastles reunited Bobby Reynolds with his DC fans for another run at the WTT title in 2012.

My Season With the Washington Kastles – Part 2: Rennae Stubbs

Earlier this week I posted about my working for the Washington Kastles during their undefeated 2011 WTT Championship season. That same day the draft was held for the upcoming 2012 WTT season and the Kastles brought back everyone who was involved with that history making title run.  Sadly when the draft was complete there was one player missing from the Kastles roster.  Kastles co-captain, five-time WTT Champion, winner of six doubles grand slams (two mixed doubles), and the coolest Aussie I’ve ever met, Rennae Stubbs had retired from the tennis world after the 2011 Fed Cup.

My Season With the Washington Kastles – Part 1

Last summer, as many of you may know, I was fortunate enough to work with the World Team Tennis Champions, Washington Kastles, as a team photographer.  Back in 2010,  I had sent an email to them asking about a photography position.  A year later I received the invitation from Abby to join the team for the 2011 season.  It had been a while since my last sporting event, a Nascar race in 2009, so I was really looking forward to joining the team.  With my buddy, Willis Bretz, coming to shoot as well, I knew it was going to be a fun three weeks.

Fashion For Paws Six In The City

Last week six lovely ladies descended on L2 Lounge in Georgetown as guest bartenders to raise money for my favorite charity, Fashion For Paws and the Washington Humane Society.  Dr. Katy Nelson, Shelley Tidmore, Gabrielle Fronce, Lisa Marie, Sunanda Patel and Sarah Catanzaro each had their own signature drink flowing to keep the crowd in good spirits.  Sadly, despite my requests, not one of them was able to recreate a single Cruise/Cox bar scene from ‘Cocktail‘, and there was no poetry to be had.  (for those of you who are too young, look it up.)

Pic of The Day: Stef Woods and Flake at Fashion for Paws 2011

Today’s ‘Pic(s) of The Day’ comes to you from the 2011 Fashion For Paws Runway Show. This was my second year photographing the annual event held by the Washington Humane Society, and as always it was an amazing evening with friends, both the two legged and four legged variety. The event was held at the National Building Museum and featured a new stage design which made it a little tricky for shooting, but it did yield me these wonderful photos.

Stef Woods, as many of you may know, is a huge supporter of Fashion For Paws and an amazing person. Continue reading

Pic of The Day: Washington Kastles Perfect Season

This past summer I had the honor of being a staff photographer for the Washington Kastles. For those not in the know the Washington Kastles are part of World Team Tennis, or WTT, and in their short time are one of the most successful organizations in the history of DC sports. I could not have been happier working with this team, and the entire Kastles staff. From the owner, Mark Ein, down to the clean up crews I haven’t been around a better group of people in quite some time. Continue reading

Pic of The Day: Jeffrey Earnhardt

Back in 2008 when I got my first DSLR, a Nikon D60, I had an opportunity to attend a Nascar Busch Series East race at South Boston Speedway as a guest of Kerry Earnhardt.  At the time I had just taken over maintenance duties on Kerry’s website and his son, Jeffrey, was racing for Dale Earnhardt, Inc.  I was excited to not only attend South Boston but get down in the pits again and finally be able to really get some action shots. Nothing says editing like Mötley Crüe

I love 80′s music, there I said it. My first taste of 80′s glam/rock/metal/etc was stealing borrowing my brother’s Poison ‘Look What The Cat Dragged In’ (LWTCDI for us hardcore fans) tape. He’ll deny ever owning this fine piece of rock and roll history but he did and I liberated it from him. It was all downhill from there. Mötley Crüe, KISS, Skid Row, a little Tuff for good measure and finally topping it all off with some Warrant. Continue reading
